Hello and welcome to YourCollegeQuestions.com.
If you are here, you probably have some questions about college and higher education in general, either for yourself or for your son or daughter.
Regardless of what or who brought you here, I know that going to college can bring up a ton of questions. This is true if the student will be the first person in your family to attend college or if the student comes from a family where the parents have advanced degrees.
I know about all the questions and uncertainty surrounding going to college firsthand. After being the first person in my family to earn a bachelor’s degree and then later to earn my master’s degree, I worked for over 15 years in higher education helping students and families make sense of it all.
After helping countless families throughout the years and now helping my children to make their own college decisions, I have come to a few conclusions:
- Most high school counselors are overwhelmed. They are usually so outnumbered that they spend very little time with each student as it relates to the areas of career development and helping students navigate the college decision process.
- My experiences working in higher education have given my kids a resource that a lot of their classmates don’t have.
What Is This Site About?
I know that a lot of families don’t have anywhere they can turn for help if the high school isn’t giving them answers or advice about college-related questions and issues.
What Is Our Mission?
The mission of this website is to provide a resource that students and parents can use to answer some of the most frequently asked college questions. Where the questions aren’t able to be answered in full, the goal will be to direct families to the resource(s) that will help them get the information they need to make informed decisions.
What Does This Website Cover?
As the website grows, it will eventually cover topics such as:
- Career development and exploration
- Choosing a major
- Choosing a college and making a list of schools to apply to
- Admissions
- Financial Aid
- Finances and debt management
We also know that some questions don’t have cut-and-dried answers. We will try to answer those questions too and in those cases, we will label these as opinions so it is clear that there might be differing points of view or opinions on these topics/questions.
Who Is Writing the Content?
I will write as much of the content as I can. That said, there is a lot of information that I want to share with you so I will hire some content writers who are experienced in the area of education to help grow the website faster.
Know that even when I am getting help from other writers, I will review and edit each of the questions we will address on this website.
I hope that you will find this website to be a valuable resource.
Best wishes!
